You'll just have to trust me on this one: I don't *always* sound like a fourth-grader - I've actually been playing for several years, and I do, on occasion, play something decent-sounding. Here's why this is not one of those occasions: - I'm in the middle of trying to break some bad habits, which means my intonation is a bit worse than usual. - I have no microphones or recording equipment, which not only affects the recording quality but means my setup was super-uncomfortable; my bowing was a lot less free than usual and I had to mess with the computer in the middle of playing a bit. - By the time I finished arranging the 2a03 bit, copying the viola part over, printing it out, figuring out how to use garageband, etc., I didn't have the will nor the time to actually practice the part a bunch or record a million takes. Everything you hear here is probably my second or third try at recording it, although I did record over a few parts a few times. - It's surprisingly difficult to record an instrument that varies slightly in intonation over a consistency perfectly-in-tune recording. - I have no idea how to mix my recording to sound better; I've never worked with a DAW in my life. So, anyway, I guess this is more of a proof-of-concept for a freestyle cover concept than anything that is meant to be taken seriously. It certainly felt like a lot of work for a whole lot of nothing in the end, but maybe someone more competent than me would like to try something similar next time. author????: |
